b. March 2, 1916, Nogales, Arizona
d. October 18, 2008, Tucson, Arizona

Angelina Martinez Heredia, daughter of Ignacia (Castillo) and Francisco Martinez was born on March 2, 1916, the second-youngest of six children, on her parents' homestead near Nogales, Arizona. After her father's death her mother continued working their small ranch with the help of the older boys. Angelina became a good horsewoman and was also a valued helper.

Angelina married Alfredo Heredia on February 14, 1935. They had four daughters: Aida, Amelina, Arsenia and Anarinda. The family lived on many different ranches in the southern Arizona area, often in remote areas and Angelina learned to make do with what she had available. She made cheese and canned fruits, vegetables and meat. She decorated her linens with embroidery, and was a good seamstress, sewing clothes for her girls from patterns she made out of newspaper.

After their daughters left home she was once again a valued helper and companion on the ranch riding with Alfredo as he worked cattle and often accompanying him on lion hunts.

When Alfredo retired, together they carried stone from nearby creeks to build a house in Elgin where they lived many years and particularly enjoyed the visits of their children and grandchildren. Alfredo planted fruit trees and Angelina enjoyed her flower garden and the many hummingbirds that visited daily.

Alfredo's grave on the left, Angelina's grave on right.
