He was widowed and left his three small boys with relatives
for a while then put them in a boarding school. One of the boys,
Henri, died . The father then took the remaining two with him.
They moved back and forth between New England and Canada,

told him of a store in Sonoita, Arizona that was for sale.
He bought the store in 1921 it was called the Sonoita Merchantile
He was appointed Postmaster in February 1922 a post that he
held until retirement in June 1952. He was Treasurer of the
Santa Cruz County Fair and Rodeo Association from the 1920's
until he retired in 1946.
He continued operating the store until his death in 1963
