b. February 11, 1924 Tucson, Arizona
d. November 21, 2009 Phoenix, Arizona

Gene was born and grew up in Tucson; his father was an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. The family moved to Yuma where Gene graduated from Yuma High School; they then moved back to Tucson and Gene went to the University of Arizona where he met Marion Hathaway. Before he graduated, WWII broke out and he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific until the end of the war; he returned to San Francisco and it was there that he married Marion who was in the Army Nursing Corp. They moved to her family's ranch between Canelo and Parker Lake and lived there for several years and then moved to Phoenix where Gene lived the rest of his life.

He was a carpenter, served three terms in the Arizona House of Representatives and worked for the Arizona Department of Public Safety where he retired. He was also a 50 + year Mason and Shriner and he loved to hunt, fish and travel.

Gene and Marion eventually divorced but they stayed very good friends; Gene died before Marion and she told her family she wanted to have Gene buried next to her with her name as McClellan on her stone.
